Will you be upgrading to Microsoft Windows 7, sticking with Vista or hang on to XP?

Written By: Frostedblue On: 19/08/2009 Time (16:47:17)

This is obviously a question for Windows users as the thought of a Mac user switching over to Windows might cause panic attacks for some poeple and Linux uses actually paying for an OS simply ludicrous.

But, as the title suggests, will you upgrade?

The reason i ask this is the recent price announcements make MS Windows a very expensive purchase indeed. £229 for the ultimate version seems incredibly expensive.

Your thoughts?

Also, Microsoft has confirmed they will be releasing a Windows 7 Family Pack. For around $149 this gets you 3 licenses so you can install on 3 separate PCs. It's a bulk purchase deal! We don't know what the prices in the UK will be like just yet.

Hmmm, I wonder where they got that idea from! Wouldn't we be better off buying one of these between 3 friends thus saving lots of cash? Surely a copy like this maybe more prone to piracy. It's easy enough to install vista OEM on more than one PC.

Well, I like certain feature of Vista and given that the rest of it's broken and I don;t want to go back to XP I'll be upgrading to Windows 7 ASAP.

Additionally I got in early and got the Home Premium Version for £44.97. That's the FULL UPGRADE version not the OEM one so I can reinstall to hy hearts content.

Add to that I've gone for a new hard drive to put it on and I should hve a killer system with a nice OS and speedy performance. It's a shame I couldn't afford a SSD drive but they still have a few issues so the fastest conusmer class mechanical HDD is now mine (Samsung 1TB Spinpoint F3 [dual 500GB platters, constant 7200rpm]).

ROll on the 23rd!

As a current user of Windows 7, i have to say that i like it very much. Would i pay the Retail price for it? No.

£44 seems about right in my book. Windows operating systems should be more affordable if Microsoft wish to keep the monopoly, they have lost a fair old chunk of market share because of Vista. I really think its the least MS can do to reassure its users, if Apple can do it so can MS.

BTW! LegoYoda, great choice of HDD. Samsung SpinPoint's have been my HDD of choice for a couple of years now, due to their speed, size and price. Obviously SSD's are now over taking these mechanical drives but they are still too expensive!
