WIndows 7 is released soon so pre-order now, before its too late

Microsoft released their pricing for the latest incarnation of Windows operating systems recently. The cost of an operating system at a consumer level seems to be the most expensive yet. But for some bizarre reason, pre-ordering early means we get a full copy for less, much less.
It seams that the pre-order offers have been offered to America and to the UK at different prices. Usually the fact that living in the UK means that we pay more for our products but in this case its untrue.
Take the price of Windows 7 Home Premium as an example: Its SSP (Suggested Selling Price) is £149 but if you wish to pre-order it works out at £60ish or there abouts. Its strange that the US pre-order price has been quoted at being $200 for the same product, thats £122 when converted. Why? Especially when the software has been written by an american company.
This leads me onto another thought, would it be more cost effective to not purchase Windows 7 but take out a MS TechNet subscription instead. Although the cost is high, a smidge over the price of Windows 7 Ultimate, it does give you access to most of the Microsoft range of products including all OS's, Server OS's, Office Suites and much more.
Of course there is the fact that its a yearly subscription but it does give users the full access to new unreleased software before the general public. And due to the fact MS release new software on a 2 - 3 year basis, i think its probably the most cost effective way to keep up with software releases.
Just a thought, what about yours?
